Lehre, HTL, AHS: these paths continue after compulsory school. The terms are the official Austrian names.

Lehre
Training in a company and at vocational school. With 'Lehre mit Matura' it can also lead to university entrance. 2 to 4 years
BMS (berufsbildende mittlere Schule)
Vocational school with a professional qualification, without Matura. 3 to 4 years
HTL (Höhere Technische Lehranstalt)
Matura and technical vocational training in one. 5 years
HAK / HLT
Matura focused on business or tourism. 5 years
BAfEP / HLW
Matura with training in early education or social work. 5 years
HBLA
Matura focused on agriculture, environment or food. 5 years
AHS-Oberstufe (Gymnasium)
General education with Matura as the basis for university. 4 years
Fachhochschule (FH)
Practice-oriented degree, often with an internship. 3-year bachelor
Universität
